This is a remarkably detailed study of a text that has not been accessible to many nonspecialists and that reveals a good deal about the early Jodo tradition and Japanese Buddhist historiography. Blum is owed much gratitude for not only making the translation available (that alone would have been a service), but doing so in such a thorough and meticulous fashion.
