Description
Joy, friendship, love, courage, solidarity, honesty, sincerity, gratitude..."Virtues and Values" suggests the necessary bricks for the upbringing of a happy, fulfilled and wise person with a balanced personality and a solid enlightened conscience. Virtues and Values offers educators a variety of pedagogical tolls to foster in boys and girls the development of human and moral values. Starting from biblical passages and a brief reflection, children are involved in activities and games which stimulate their creativity and broaden their understanding. The book unfolds in 52 sections, one for every week of the year, each proposing a virtue or a value to work on, always related to children's everyday experience. This book is full of ideas for families, teachers, catechists and full of fun for children.
Reviews / Votes
A very appealing and uplifting book that I think would achieve the aim of helping children grow in the virtues and values of Christian living. The illustrations are delightful. It is a book that is sensitive to how a young child thinks and which is positive. There are plenty of activities to try as well as loads of joy and encouragement for them to press on. - Patricia Lockheart This is a bright and colourful book that on first perusal would seem to be for children - but is actually a toll for adults too. The left hand pages identify a topic, a relevant Scripture text and some explanatory notes for the catechist/parent/teacher - while the right hand pages provide a text and an activity for children of primary school age. The illustrations are colourful and child-friendly and the topics cover a vast spectrum: wisdom, sincerity, patience, forgiveness, etc. Some of the topics such as discretion, integrity, solidarity etc. might seem complicated issues for this age group but the explanations are clear and thoughtful and would be easily grasped. This is a timely book that tackles the moral issues that affect the lives of children and can help them to develop their consciences in line with Christian teaching without being sentimental of "preachy." This is an excellent text which facilitates a catechesis that is deep and meaningful without being trite or boring. - Marie Cook, Aberdeen Religious Education OfficeMore details
