Description
The book will contain a large number of both colour and black-and-white photographs from the author's field work, including stills of the artists, works in production, ritual objects, and ceremonies. Thirty full-page plates of acrylic paintings will be included from various collections. It is a unique book that combines an appreciation of Aboriginal art with contemporary theoretical concerns. On one level, it is a beautifully illustrated book about contemporary Aboriginal art from the Central Desert of Australia, which has become immensely popular in the world's art markets. At the same time, the book will draw on various theoretical considerations as it attempts to define, explain and understand this art.
Reviews / Votes
"'... to view Aboriginal Central Desert art is to engage in a sensuous experience. Haptic, tactile, affective: above all else, these works make us feel. These feelings are not secondary to the appreciation of this art form, rather, it is precisely this experience of feeling that matters.' - Jennifer Biddle"More details
