Description
The book presents the development of a user-friendly software tool in Microsoft Excel for the design of rigid pavements based on IRC:58-2002 and IRC:58-2011 guidelines. It focuses on creating an eco-efficient and accurate computer-aided design process that reduces manual effort, time, and calculation errors in rigid pavement analysis. The research begins with a detailed review of pavement types, emphasizing the advantages of concrete pavements in terms of durability, sustainability, and reduced life-cycle costs compared to bituminous pavements. The methodology incorporates essential design parameters such as axle load, subgrade strength, temperature differential, and cumulative fatigue damage. The developed Excel program automates slab thickness, stress analysis, and dowel/tie bar design, integrating IRC specifications and equations. The project identifies common deficiencies in current Indian design practices and provides corrective recommendations. Ultimately, the software enables cost-effective, sustainable, and technically sound rigid pavement design aligned with IRC standards.
