Holly Berkley's All-New Twenty to Make: Wirework Jewellery is a wonderful place to start. I was struck by how accessible it feels-20 achievable projects ranging from rings and pendants to earrings and bracelets. What makes this book especially easy to follow is its use of clear, step-by-step visuals. Each technique is illustrated so beautifully that you feel confident trying new skills, whether you're twisting loops or creating a wire weave. As someone who often shies away from "crafty" projects for fear they'll be too fiddly, I love how Holly's instructions demystify the process. You don't need an entire workshop of tools-just a few essentials to get going-and that makes it feel much more doable. * Women Talking * Craft your own stunning wire rings, necklaces, earrings and more, with simple techniques and just a few materials. Straightforward to make and bang on trend, these fun wire projects add the perfect finishing touch. * Machine Knitting Monthly, January 2026 * I haven't done any wirework in a long time, so it was fun to revisit this with daughter Rose. There are lots of beginner-friendly projects to choose from in the book, which would appeal to makers of all ages. Ones that stood out for me included the Elven Pendant, Waterfall Necklace and Bird's Nest Pendant.
I liked the introduction to materials and tools at the beginning of the book as Holly gave helpful hints and tips for each. There are also lots of essential tips and techniques covered, such as making loops, measuring for a ring and the importance of avoiding kinks in the wire. I'm very visual as a learner, so although there are basic diagrams for most of the techniques, I do think additional images would be helpful for clarity on some of the more involved techniques for example the wire wrap.
Rose was excited by several of the projects in the book but chose the four-strand twist ring to start with. It seemed like a good option for someone new to wireworking to succeed with and we could use softer aluminum wire.
Overall, I think the book is a good first book if you're looking to dip your toe into the world of wirework. It's affordably priced and concise, so if you were wanting to try wire and see how you got on before investing more, then it's a good choice to play with.
When asked if she liked the book, Rose said: "I loved it!". We plan to have a go at a few more projects as they will make great gifts. Rose says: "I'm going to make the Double Eight Earrings next. Mummy is going to let me borrow her hammer!" -- Rose (age 7) and Chloe Menage * Bead Society of Great Britain - Spring/Summer 2026 *
