Dr. Nelson's research interests include biomarkers of pain and intoxication, and she has both published and ongoing research studies in artificial intelligence and machine learning. She collaborated with NASA engineers in the development of Earth-independent medical operations as part of the Exploration Medical Integrated Product Team, focusing specifically on leveraging artificial intelligence to create a clinical decision support system for the austere environment of spaceflight. She currently works for Vast Space as the Medical Science Lead in their division of Space Medicine Operations.
