One of the defining images of the Clyde and Glasgow are the great ships and yards which have dominated them through much of their history. In them was defined not simply a way of life, but a people and a nation. This is the first comprehensive anthology - of fiction, non fiction, poetry and prose - covering the life and times of the yards and the men who lived in them. Lavishly illustrated, it is both a history and a celebration of what for many is the golden age of Glasgow and the Clyde. This book is the subject of major exhibitions on the life of the shipbuilding yards being held in Irvinc and Saltcoats from October 2001.
