CAROL BECKERMAN is a food writer, blogger, recipe developer, and author of six popular cookbooks. Equipped with more than 40 years of culinary experience, Carol is passionate about bringing flavors from around the world together in innovative and exciting combinations, and in particular, fusing these elements into her recipes in simple, easy-to-follow steps. Having finished her last book, Doughnuts! Carol was eager to return to the healthy eating innovations of her earlier recipes in 500 Breakfasts, 500 Gluten Free Dishes, and The Halogen Oven Cookbook, where she created a wide range of allergy-friendly, low-fat, and low-sugar recipes.
DAWN OTWELL is an entrepreneur with a background in art and the fashion industry who has long had an interest in the creative aspects of baking. Growing up, Dawn watched the women of her family cook and bake from memory without the need for recipes, which has inspired a lifelong passion for food innovations.
In 2009, Dawn began work at a natural foods cooperative, which proved to be the ideal opportunity to combine her interest in local growers, produce, and spirit of community. In this setting, the idea for her first ever culinary venture was born. Along with close friends who shared her interest in bringing sustainable, gourmet doughnuts to the Twin Cities, Otwell opened The Donut Cooperative in 2011 as a crowd-funded venture, raising far more money due to local interest than she ever anticipated. The shop specialized in unusual and interesting in-season flavors as well as vegan offerings, among the first of their kind in the area.
