Examining the biological effects of electromagnetism, the author shows how the discoveries of electricity and magnetism in the human body have led to an understanding of how accupuncture, electrotherapy, homeopathy and hypnosis are thought to work. But at the same time, man-made electromagnetic fields are, according to Dr Becker, affecting our bodies - power-lines, pylons, radar, VDUs, microwaves, satellites and even electrical appliances can harm us. The electromagnetic grid and signals which span the nation are also exposing us to the sort of radiation previously considered safe, but now thought to be associated with the increase in cancer, birth defects, depression, Alzheimer's disease and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. On the practical front, Dr Becker suggests ways of reducing the risk from personal computers, fluorescent lights, electric clocks, microwave ovens and other equipment in the home and office.
