Description
In this book, Birol Baskan explains the variation in attitudes and approaches towards the Muslim Brotherhood across 5 Gulf States: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. He argues that this disparity is at the root of the ongoing Gulf crisis that erupted in June 2017.
Reviews / Votes
With The Politics of Islam, Birol Baskan provides a valuable overview of an important and understudied context of contemporary Islamism. Intense opposition towards the Muslim Brotherhood by governments such as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia is a defining aspect of the new political landscape in the Middle East, and this book is a crucial resource for students, researchers, and policymakers seeking to make sense of these developments. -- Peter Mandaville, George Mason University, author of Islam and PoliticsMore details
