Angelo Basile is a Full Professor and a leading authority in membrane science and technology. Since 2014, he has served as Full Professor in Systems, Methods and Technologies of Chemical Engineering Processes at CNR-ITM in Rende, Italy. His work covers hydrogen purification and production using membrane reactors, CO? capture, process intensification, and the treatment of industrial effluents with advanced membrane operations. Basile has edited many scientific books and authored numerous book chapters, bridging complex research with clear knowledge for engineers and scientists. Motivated by the role of AI/ML in accelerating membrane process design and automation, he supports integrating data-driven methods for smart plants and reaction-separation optimisation.
Alfredo Cassano has worked as a Researcher at CNR-ITM in Italy since 2000. Trained in Biology, he specializes in membrane science and technology, including conventional membrane processes, membrane contactors, and integrated membrane operations used for wastewater treatment and agro-food applications. He has led or directed research through numerous national MIUR-funded projects, as well as European Union international projects and industry collaborations. Cassano contributes to the scientific community through editorial-board roles and has co-authored several books, numerous journal articles, and chapters, alongside conference and invited work, and two national patents. His interests include recovering bioactive compounds from by-products, membrane distillation, osmotic distillation, and wastewater remediation, motivated by bridging membrane technology with practical AI/ML and real-time monitoring to advance circular economy resource recovery. Sirshendu De did his B. Tech (1990), M. Tech (1993) and PhD (1997) from Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Kanpur. His main research interest includes membrane separation, membrane casting and applications, process developments, modeling and design; flow modeling, heat and mass transfer in microchannel, mathematic modeling of different Chemical Engineering processes. He has authored 8 books, 16 patents, 333 publications in journals of repute and handled 45 research projects and transferred 4 technologies for commercialization to six companies. He has guided 25 PhD and 70+ M. Tech students. Prof. De has been awarded several awards, including Institute Chair Professorship, 2020, Abdul Kalam Fellowship for Innovative Research 2017, Innovation Award from Indian Desalination Association 2016, INAE Chair Professorship 2015, Innovation Award by Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers 2015, Lockheed-Martin top 10 innovation 2015, NASI-Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award (2013), INAE Silver Jubilee Award (2012), DAE-SRC Young Investigator Award (2012), Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in "Engineering Science? by CSIR, Govt of India (2011), Herdillia Award (2010). He is a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineers, New Delhi and The National Academy of Sciences, India, Allahabad. He is the founder of the spin-off company M/s, Technoquips Separation Pvt. Ltd. Sourav Mondal did his PhD from IIT Kharagpur (2015) on mass transport phenomena related to filtration systems. Thereafter he had a post-doctoral stint at the mathematical institute of Oxford University (UK) working on advanced fluid flow problems in engineering. Currently he is the assistant professor at the chemical engineering in IIT Kharagpur. His current research interests are broadly in the domain of fluid dynamics and transport phenomena, related to flow in porous medium, membrane filtration, computational fluid dynamics and mass transport in separation systems. He has authored 50 international peer reviewed journal publications and 3 monographs.
He is the recipient of INAE Young Engineers Award in 2021. He was awarded the Oxford University (UK) vice-chancellor innovation award in 2018.
