Description
Scientific computing has become increasingly important for many science branches - from natural sciences and engineering to cultural and social sciences. They all have in common that they apply methods involving supercomputers to approach a wide variety of problems. At the University of Innsbruck scientific computing has become one of five research focal points. The main aims of the focal point Scientific Computing are exploitation of synergies between research areas and central acquisition and allocation of computing resources, in a university-wide, a national and an international context. This centralised approach provides researchers with an easy access to supercomputers locally, at other Austrian institutions and even at the largest supercomputing facilities worldwide. "Scientific Computing @ uibk" introduces the research focal point itself and gives an overview of current research topics investigated in a wide range of research fields.
