Description
This is one of the first books to be published on the topic of Osteopathy. He makes the claim that Still had somewhat incorrect ideas on some important theories and that anyone really can learn to use osteopathy to treat common ailments. He believed that it was more likely that poor circulation caused dysfunction than bone dislocation. Thus while he promoted basically the same techniques as Still, his opinion differed from Still's as to why they worked. His focus then was to create a book that could be used by anyone, and he avoids overuse of medical lingo in favour of plain clear layman's language. He provides an overview of how Osteopathy works, including a description of bone and nerve interaction. He also addresses how circulation contributes to any dysfunction and how soft tissue techniques can alleviate these issues. He provides a detailed description of specific ailments from asthma to whooping cough. He also provides definitions of any medical terminology he does use.
