Description
This book presents the findings from recent research into practices and applications of Target Value Delivery - that is, setting budgets based on a building's functional requirements, and steering the budgets through the design and construction process. It demonstrates that budget setting can precede design solutions, and provide tools to the design team to deliver the project vision with the available funds. The authors lay out the processes involved in Target Value Delivery, explore the history, and present how different teams apply the principles in practice. The book is intended as a practical guide for practitioners - building owners, designers, contractors, project managers and estimators - and to provoke further study and development of the topic within the construction profession.

'In this long-awaited book, Glenn Ballard and Peter Morris present a well-researched and comprehensive argument in favor of Target Value Delivery. The book is easy to read. It is a must-read for Lean scholars and practitioners, and anyone interested in value delivery and cost modeling of capital projects and the sustainable development of the built environment.'Iris TommeleinProfessor at the University of California Berkeley, USA, and co-founder of the Lean Construction Institute'This well-researched book brings together the rigor of research with the experience of professionals and companies that have been pioneers in the implementation of TVD. Rich in inspiring principles and concepts derived from the Lean vision, it is an incomparable resource for any practitioner who wants to apply TVD and should inspire many to adopt the methods and practices that have been proven to lead projects to a better result.'Luis F. AlarconFounding member of the International Group for Lean Construction, and Professor at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile'Tackling the front end of the project delivery process is requisite to achieving business/project objectives both short and long term. This book provides the exact framework and methods for doing so and should be required reading for all those that manage the design and build process.'Todd R. ZabelleFounder of the Project Production Institute, founder and CEO of Strategic Project Solutions, Inc., and CEO of Factory PhysicsMore details

In 2018, he retired from the University of California Berkeley after teaching a graduate course on Lean construction concepts and methods for 22 years and serving as Research Director for the university's Project Production Systems Laboratory for 13 years. He has over 40 years' experience in cost management and control, including construction cost planning and estimating, risk management, life cycle costing, scheduling and market analysis.
