Alaina came to Maple Creek hoping the quieter pace would help her rediscover why she chose a life in law enforcement. Instead, she finds the same frustrations that once wore her down in the city beginning to surface again, leaving her more uncertain than ever about her future.
When an opportunity arises to work on her uncle's ranch-just a short drive from the Maple Creek Coffee Club-she takes it, telling herself it's only temporary. What she doesn't expect is Luke, the steady, reserved ranch foreman who has long since closed the door on anything resembling romance.
Their connection is immediate, even if neither of them is willing to admit it. Luke keeps his distance, and Alaina tries to do the same, but every shared glance and quiet moment in the barn pulls them closer. Under his patient guidance, especially as she learns to work with a difficult horse, Alaina begins to uncover strengths in herself she had forgotten-and feelings she can no longer ignore.
