Bacterial Fish Pathogens

This work is about the biological aspects of the bacterial taxa which cause diseases in fish. Diseases are considered in the context of the environment of the fish and of water, and coverage includes aspects of the microbiology of water and fish. Information on the structure of fish is added to familiarize readers with general fish anatomy. The scope of the book covers all the bacterial taxa which have been reported as fish pathogens, and the material is sub-divided for easy reference into sections which deal with characteristics of the diseases, isolation methods, characterization of the pathogens, diagnosis, epizootiology, pathogenicity mechanisms and control. This text is written by bacteriologists for an audience of fellow microbiologists. It tabulates the identification procedures, characteristics of pathogens and characterization of the diseases and their control. A detailed bibliography concludes each chapter. The book concentrates on farmed fish rather than wild stocks for economic and commercial reasons.
