Description
A deluxe gift edition of Jane Austen's first novel with foiled covers, marbled endpapers, sprayed edges, and a silk ribbon bookmark.
The Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, are in urgent need of financial security, ideally in the form of husbands. Elinor is as prudent as her sister Marianne is impetuous, and each must learn from the other after they are forced by their father's death to leave their home and enter into the contests of polite society. The charms of unsuitable men and the schemes of rival ladies mean that their paths to success are often thwarted by disappointment, but together they attempt to find a way to happiness.

Person
Jane Austen was born in Steventon rectory on December 16, 1775. Her family later moved to Bath, then to Southampton and finally to Chawton in Hampshire. She began writing Pride and Prejudice when she was twenty-two years old. It was originally called First Impressions and was initially rejected by the publishers and only published in 1813 after much revision. She published four of her novels in her lifetime, Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816). Jane Austen died on July 18, 1817. Northanger Abbey and Persuasion were both published posthumously in 1818.
