Description
From the twelfth century onwards the legends of King Arthur and his knights, including the Tristan legend, spread across Europe, producing a vast range of adaptations and new stories. German and Dutch literature were of central importance in this expansion of Arthurian material from the twelfth to sixteenth century, contributing works of outstanding aesthetic quality and a lively process of reception, adaptation and transmission in which the Arthurian subject matter underwent various modifications in contact with northern and central European traditions.
Reviews / Votes
'The bibliographies are a scholar's dream: the most recent scholarship is cited in addition to important classic works of the past. The index should be a model for those dealing with variant spellings and versions of similar works. The author of the Germans should be brought for every collage and university library where German literature, and medieval studies offered.' '...a handsome volume...highly recommended...' Choice '...an excellent source for a thoroughgoing introduction to the field...excellently edited...and handsomely produced...' Journal of English and Germanic Philology '...a volume of excellent articles written by outstanding German and British medievalists.' Studi MedievaliMore details
