Applied Metapsychology Dictionary

The term "metapsychology" (small m) means, briefly: The science that unifies mental and physical experience. Its purpose is to discover the rules that apply to both. It is a study of the per­son, their abilities and experience, as seen from their own point of view. Applied Metapsychology (AMP) is the subject that puts the principles of metapsychology to work for the purpose of relieving traumatic stress, promoting personal growth and development, and empowering people to improve the quality of their lives. This dictionary includes most of the terms used in Applied Metapsychology. Working out a proper and consistent vocab­ulary for metapsychology has been a continual compromise between what sounds graceful in ordinary English and what conveys a precise meaning. Many of our terms also occur in normal speech in a sense similar to, but usually not exactly the same as, that given here, just as physics uses terms like "mass", "density", and "energy" in a special­ized and more precise way. Natural language is preferred instead of inventing new terms, because their meaning is similar enough to normal usage to give the reader an intuitive idea of what is meant, while the meta­psychological definition provides the needed precision for the subject. The terminology has evolved over time. This dictionary gives the current lexicon, but some changes will likely occur in the future, and no doubt this dictionary will have to be modified and expanded.
