Description
This handbook contains methods for determining the presence in blood or urine of sixteen hazardous compounds frequently encountered in occupational environments. These include aromatic amines, benzene derivatives, trichloroacetic acid, phenol and chlorophenols, hippuric acid and its methyl derivatives, bromine, as well as the noxious metals beryllium, cadmium, nickel, and thallium. The description of each method includes an evaluation of the method, a brief listing of the reliability criteria, and general information on the chemical compound to be tested, i.e. toxicity, metabolism, toxicokinetics, and its normal limit values in biological material as far as they are known. The method itself is described in sufficient detail so that it can be easily duplicated by the staff of any appropriately equipped laboratory.
