About the Author John B. Anderson is professor of electrical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. He has held visiting appointments at the University of California, Berkeley, Queen's University, Canada, the Technical University of Munich, and Chalmers and Lund Technical Universities in Sweden. Dr. Anderson has also served as a consultant in the communication field to a number of companies and government departments. Dr. Anderson was president of the IEEE Information Theory Society in 1985 and was the editor-in-chief of IEEE Press in 1994 1996. He is a coauthor of three other books: Digital Phase Modulation (Plenum, 1986), Modern Electrical Communication (Prentice Hall, 1988), and Source and Channel Coding (Kluwer, 1991). Dr. Anderson received the Humboldt Research Prize in 1991. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
