Altona

This book about Altona shows that photographer Meyer-Veden has reached a new stage in his artistic career. He is no longer centrally concerned with the aesthetic of a particular object, depicted with artistic precision and objective distance. More important are a place's particular characteristics. Taken overall they determine its atmosphere and give it the unmistakable quality we associate with the notion of home. Thus the Altona pictures grew out of his own knowledge of home, or rather his search for it. They tell us what ten years of persistent photography and patient trail-following can produce.
