Description
Gender discrimination and inequality are highly prevalent in media organizations. Women are underrepresented and overlooked despite their exceptional contributions. They play a significant role in the progress of an organization but male-dominated media discriminate against them. Leading positions in media organizations are occupied by men and rarely any woman is seen in a decisive position. Likewise, the media portray women in a stereotypical and sexualized manner. They are depicted as a tool to please and oblige men. This perpetuates gender stereotypes, inequality, and violence against women. Even if a woman is represented as strong and independent she would be attributed to her stereotypical roles. Such portrayals and stereotyping are causing detrimental repercussions on women's contributions and, society cannot gain progress if gender inequality exists.
