Description
Von der Fakultät für Umweltwissenschaften und Verfahrenstechnik der Brandenburgischen Technischen Universität Cottbus zur Erlangung des akademischen Grades eines Doktor-Ingenieurs (Dr.-Ing.) genehmigte Dissertation. The indirect impacts of energy use in form of depletion of natural resources, degradation of environment and threats to human health have evolved a change from conventional to renewable energy sources (RES) over the last century. This dissertation analyzes the technical potential of a spectrum of five key RES technologies involved in power generation. It assesses the associate impacts and projected costs of implementation of each technology and categorizes them into different time frames of implementation. The main research challenge was the equilibrium-constraint between cost efficiency and environmental impacts. A pragmatic approach has been adopted to integrate RES systematically into a highly centralized conventional power system of a selected region. The end scenario is the portfolio of a system generating 100% green power with economic vitality.
