During the six long years of the Second World War the British psyche was changed irrevocably. We Shall Never Surrender takes us through key moments in that six- year conflict through a range of distinct voices, professions and geographical locations. Some will be known to readers already, others unfamiliar but all have been selected for their ability to write well and to conjure empathy in the reader. The majority will take us throughout the war, though some by necessity will fade away to be replaced by others. Each of the diarists will be properly introduced, but ultimately they will tell their own, fascinating stories.

Penelope Middelboe has had a successful career in television and launched the Shakespeare Schools Festival alongside Chris Grace. She is the author of the diary collection We Shall Never Surrender: British Voices 1939-1945 and has edited the journals of her great-great-aunt Edith Olivier. Christopher Grace was Director of Animation at Channel Four Wales-S4C. His commissions included Shakespeare - The Animated Tales, The Canterbury Tales, SuperTed and Fireman Sam. He has a passion for social history which lead him to become founder of and run the Shakespeare Schools Festival. He is co-author of We Shall Never Surrender. Martin Lamb is a scriptwriter for Channel 4's Animation Department, producing and writing award-winning adaptations of Shakespeare and Chaucer. He is the co-author of We Shall Never Surrender. Jane Whittenshaw's many screen credits include Peak Practice, Silent Witness, Eastenders, The Bill and People Like Us. She is an experienced radio and audio book reader.
