Description
Outside Pakistan, the most famous artist from the country is Nusrat Fatesh Ali Khan, and his passing in 1997 was a shock to all who knew of him. The qawwali tradition he performed has become known throughout the world and, while the traditional strains of qawwali continue, it has moved on from these roots and in some instances merged with other influences to startling effect. Although this is perhaps the most well known musical export, there is an abundance of other styles within Pakistan that this album also addresses other folk traditions, pop and film music.
