The Old Testament: New International Version - Joshua to Ruth

Joshua continues the story of the conquest of Canaan (including those walls of Jericho coming down) in fulfilment of God's promises.

Judges tells the story of the judges (Samson being one of the most famous) appointed by God to deliver his people at critical moments. Despite his people's apostasy (turning from God), God remains faithful.

Ruth tells the famous story of a young Moabite woman who marries an Israelite and becomes an ancestor of David, ancestor of Jesus.



Abridged for the general listener in favour of the wealth of characters in the Old Testament, its poetry and its narrative. Such things as genealogies, instructions regarding certain rituals and some of the law had to give way to the stories and the poetry. Some of the stories are trimmed of some repeated details.
