Pain is something that is common to all of us. We don't choose it, and often seek to avoid it, but if we allow it, we can find our purpose in the midst of our pain.
This is the truth Lashonda Wofford discovered, and now shares in her new book, Pain Equals Purpose. Lashonda met her soul mate David when they were teenagers. Even though they were young, they began building a life together, eventually becoming parents to a beautiful baby girl. But Lashonda's idyllic world came crashing down with five bullets and a life that neither she nor David planned for. What followed was a lesson in pain and purpose that eventually birthed Akins Helping Hands, an important resource for the ventilator-dependent quadriplegic community, providing excellent In-Home Care Services as well as advocating, supporting, and educating families who find themselves in similar situations.
Through her deepest pain, Lashonda found her purpose. Now she tells her story to help you discover yours. It won't happen overnight, but if we will just submit ourselves to the process, we will discover a beautiful transformation waiting for us as we become the people God created us to be, filled with the compassion to love others and help them through the pain we overcame.
My name is Lashonda Renee Wofford. I was born to George and Beverly Williams in Goldsboro, North Carolina. I am happily married to my wonderful husband, Travis Wofford, for eleven years. I am the proud mother of two, one biological daughter, and one son, whom my husband and I have raised since the age of six. I am also a proud grandmother of one grandson, Cam'Ron Jackson-Walker, six years old. My family and I are faithful members of Grace AME Zion Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition to my family's long-standing church membership, I have actively led the praise and worship team and sang in multiple church choirs. I am currently pursuing a degree as a Registered Respiratory Therapist while running the day to day operations of Akins Helping Hands. Akins Helping Hands is a privately family-owned business that provides in-home care to the elderly and individuals battling illnesses that require hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living. The organization is led by myself, as the CEO/Administrator, and my husband as the CEO. Akins Helping Hands has been in business since 2015 and we are still serving our own and surrounding communities today. I am also the Founder of GRACE Community Outreach INC. GRACE is a non-profit organization that helps feed and clothe the less-fortunate, provides support for victims of child sexual abuse and their families, as well as providing support to individuals battling with cancer. Through these organizations, I have been able to really fulfill my purpose in life and I am honored and thankful to God for choosing me for such a task. People often feel like we are helping so many people, but the reality is that serving people in these different capacities has been such a blessing to me and my family. We don't take any of it for granted. I look forward to bigger and better in the years to come! I am also a Number One Best Selling Author, International Speaker and the mastermind behind The Affirmation Collection which was launched in July of 2020.
