Research on organization design is central to the field of management, and closely allied to the sub-field of strategic management. This book synthesizes a decade of research by the author into the fundamental issues in organization design, and presents it in the form of a new perspective (known as the micro-structural perspective).

1 An Introduction to the Micro-Structural Approach to Organization Design; 2 Behavioral Foundations; 3 Division of Labor; 4 Integration of Effort; 5 The Exercise of Authority; 6 Hierarchies of Authority; 7 Formal and Informal Organization; 8 New forms of organizing; 9 Methodology for Microstructures
I had been certain that our understanding of organizational structure had progressed little since the 1970s. But Puranam's compact volume has convinced me otherwise, and I would encourage anyone interested in organization design or corporate strategy to read it. * Olav Sorenson, Administrative Science Quarterly *
