This book measures the progress made in defining and differentiating insurance coverage for the risk of liability for damage caused by pollution of the environment. Policy clauses, endorsements and special forms used in 20 countries are analysed and compared to identify the best method of distinguishing reliably between those elements of the pollution risk that present no special problems and therefore can safely be included in standard coverages and, on the other hand, those that are still incalculable and unmanageable with the tools of conventional insurance. The book is the first to bring together in one place all the major current policy terms for easy comparison. The results provide valuable insights for insurance company practitioners, brokers and insurance buyers, as well as for experts on insurance law in law offices, government, universities and environmental organizations.
The book reproduces the research undertaken by the Working Party on the subject of the International Association for Insurance Law (AIDA).
