High levels of anxiety have been linked with lower speeds in both learning and processing, underestimating English language ability, avoiding risk by speaking less and only attempting simple messages as well as general academic under achievement. This study aims to increase the knowledge of FLA in a Japanese college context. This study is based on interviews with Japanese college students. It found that although Japanese students share many similarities to international students, there are some issues regarding Foreign Language Anxiety that are especially problematic for Japanese students. This study suggests that, among other things, communicative language teaching can be used to reduce Japanese college students' level of FLA.
