Cities of Aristocrats and Bureaucrats

This study describes and examines the urban structure of the respective capitals and major urban centres from the Sui to the Northern Song period. It provides an in-depth account of the process of transformation from the curfew-controlled city of the Tang period to the open city of the Song.
