The authors provide an excellent survey of theoretical aspects of magnetic superconductors. They develop a comprehensive theory on the coexistence of magnetic order and superconductivity by focusing on singlet superconductivity including s- and d-wave pairing. A theory is given for the competitive interaction between magnetic order and superconductivity in materials with magnetic moments and conduction electrons. Theoretical methods and concepts, such as quasiclassical equation, Eliashberg equations, the theory of superconductivity and magnetism, are treated in detail. Special attention is given to the coexistence problem in ternary and quaternary rare earth magnetic superconductors, heavy fermions, and high temperature superconductors. Additional topics are the coexistence of superconductivity and nuclear magnetic order at positive and negative nuclear temperatures as well as heterostructures of magnetic superconductors. Written by well-known experts in condensed matter theory, the book not only gives the present status of the field, but also provides the main theoretical tools for active and independent work. With a preface by Alexei A. Abrikosov, Nobel Laureate in Physics.
