This book covers all aspects of imaging diagnosis of shoulder disorders from a clinical perspective. After discussion of relevant imaging techniques, a wide spectrum of disorders is addressed in a series of dedicated chapters on rotator cuff injuries and impingement syndromes, biceps tendon and rotator interval pathology, glenohumeral instability, SLAP tears and microinstability, shoulder girdle fractures, shoulder arthropathies, tumors and tumor-like conditions, and entrapment neuropathies. Separate consideration is also given to the pediatric shoulder and to preoperative planning, postoperative imaging, and surgical techniques in patients undergoing shoulder arthroplasty.
The unique anatomy and range of motion of the shoulder joint can present a diagnostic challenge. Characterization of soft tissue injuries and radiographically occult osseous pathology is often facilitated by the use of advanced imaging techniques, including MRI, CT, and ultrasound. Readers will find this excellently illustrated book to be an invaluable aid to diagnostic interpretation when employing these techniques.
Jenny T. Bencardino, MD, started her academic career as Assistant Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School (2000-3) and was promoted to full Professor of Radiology and Orthopedic Surgery at NYU School of Medicine in 2015. She graduated in Medicine from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 1991 and is board certified in Radiology both in Colombia (1996) and in the United States (2000). She completed fellowship training in Musculoskeletal Radiology at the Hospital for Joint Diseases NYU Medical Center in 1997. Dr. Bencardino has served as Guest Editor for MRI Clinics of North America (2012) and Seminars in Musculoskeletal Imaging (2013) and is the Section Editor of "Imaging of the Knee" in Insall & Scott Surgery of the Knee, 6th edition (2015). She is an editorial board member for Skeletal Radiology and a member of the Musculoskeletal Radiology Editorial Committee for the American Journal of Roentgenology. Dr. Bencardino received the "Reviewer of Distinction" award from Skeletal Radiology in 2010 and 2011 and the Editor's Recognition Award with Distinction from Radiology in 2014. She was the recipient of the 2013 President's Medal of the International Skeletal Society. Education and mentorship have been a major focus of Dr. Bencardino's career, as reflected in her receipt of the 2014 RSNA Honored Educator award. Her commitment to professional excellence in the field of Radiology was recognized with a Who's Who lifetime achievement award. In the public service realm, Dr. Bencardino is the founder of Free Spirit Tennis & Soccer, a volunteer group that brings sports instruction to the Juvenile Detention Center in Westbury, New York.
