The purpose of this research is to provide acomprehensive analysis of a salient jihadistphilosopher by the name of Sayyid Qutb. Qutb isarguably among the most influential ideologues ofmodern-day Islamic militancy; yet, there is verylittle research examining his works. Through in-depthanalysis of the historical, social, and politicalcontexts surrounding Qutb and Islamic militancy, thisresearch will: (1) examine selected works of Qutb todetermine the frequency of his use of militantlanguage and how his usage of militant languagerelates to his overall ideology; (2) place Qutb'swritings into historical, social, and politicalcontexts while at the same time examining if, andhow, they are influencing militants today; and, (3)identify the importance of understanding the beliefsconveyed by Qutb for the purpose of informingcounterterrorism policy.
